The majority of small businesses in the UK believe that co-working is the best way for fledgling firms to thrive. This is according to the latest research by Regus, the global workspace provider.

The research, which canvassed the opinions of over 2600 UK-based small companies, found that almost three quarters (72%) identified co-working spaces as the ideal environment to base a start-up.

When asked about the benefits of co-working compared to other workspace options, more than eight in ten respondents (83%) claimed it was a much more cost-effective alternative to a fixed office. The opportunity to meet other entrepreneurs (70%) was also identified as a major plus point.

Other findings include:

  • 54% claimed that it provides more stimulus to keep skills fresh
  • 62% said co -working provides new business/ project opportunities
  • 61% said that co-working spaces offered a more creative environment that regular offices
  • Two fifths said co-working helps in keeping up –to- date with industry news

Richard Morris, UK CEO at Regus said: “Meeting other entrepreneurs is critical to creating lasting business relationships and expanding your business. Co-working is a great way to expand your network of professional contacts, access invaluable advice and inspiration and raise the profile of your business.

“However, businesses still require privacy, particularly when formal meeting space for important client meetings is needed. While co-working spaces bring many benefits, meeting-room options are also essential. Businesses are looking for a flexible mix of workspace in order to tackle everyday business tasks professionally and effectively."
