Employees attracted to companies with charitable track record

Corporate charitable and community initiatives seen as key differentiator by job hunters

Businesses looking to attract the top workforce talent should galvanise their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities according to a new survey from Regus.

45% of UK professionals state that it is important for their employer to be involved in charity work. And more than a third (37%) would choose the more charitable company if confronted with two equal job possibilities.

Respondents were asked whether their own industry sector should do more CSR related activity, and the banking, retail and media and marketing industries were identified as most in need of such initiatives.

In a competitive job market businesses are looking for every advantage in securing the most talented individuals. Now, as news breaks of the Treasury’s proposed cut-backs on salary sacrifice perks, community and charity involvement could become an increasingly powerful differentiator.

Richard Morris, UK CEO, Regus, comments: “Corporate social responsibility has perhaps been regarded as a nice-to-have by many businesses rather than an essential element of business strategy. But, for today’s jobseekers, charitable and community initiatives are incredibly important.

“Forward-thinking businesses are already working hard to ensure greater employee satisfaction – whether through a more flexible attitude to workplace hours and location, or the introduction of events and activities to stimulate idea-sharing and team bonding. Giving back - and demonstrating a level of responsibility – is an equally attractive proposition for those deciding on their next career move. In a competitive market, a CSR track-record is likely to make the difference.”
